Join an expert panel to celebrate the life, work and legacy of one the Royal Society’s best-loved Fellows and to examine the radical changes the planet has undergone throughout his remarkable life.

Sir David Attenborough turns 100 in May 2026 and has spent seven decades bringing the Earth’s animals and plants to the living rooms of millions of people around the world, teaching them about the diverse lifestyles, behaviours and adaptations of living things.

In this discussion, we will reflect on how Sir David’s work has inspired and influenced conservationists, zoologists, science communicators and wildlife filmmakers, and will explore the radical changes to the natural world throughout his remarkable life.

Speakers include:

• – Marine biologist, broadcaster and author of the Women's Prize for Non-Fiction shortlisted and most recently , published in May 2026
• – Botanist, taxonomist, Director of Research at the Natural History Museum, and author and editor of over 30 books including
•  – Environmental journalist, broadcaster and author of several books, including  and Adventures in the Anthropocene, winner of the 2015 Royal Society Trivedi Science Book Prize
• – Journalist, writer, broadcaster and presenter of the BBC’s Front Row and Newswatch, and author of a BFI Film Classics book about the Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night

This event will be held in Theatre 2 at the Royal Society on Sunday 5 July 2026, 3.20pm – 4.20pm.

• Free to attend as part of Summer Science Exhibition on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to seat availability. We recommend that visitors arrive 10-15 minutes before the session
• Eventbrite tickets for Summer Science Exhibition are recommended, with only a limited number of walk-up tickets released on the day
• Suitable for students aged 14+
