What might the future of technology look like through the lens of Afro-Futurism? Award-winning environmental justice technologist and educator Joycelyn Longdon joins us to discuss her research on justice-led conservation technologies. By working with communities that are commonly excluded from conservation and technology research, she is creating alternative tech futures that are rooted in relationship with people and planet. She is joined by Black to the Future festival founder and director Irenosen Okojie.

is an Afro-Futurist celebration of outstanding Black artists, a space for visionary imaginings to thrive. Black to the Future is founded, directed and curated by Irenosen Okojie.

is an Environmental Justice Researcher at Cambridge University, specialising in biodiversity monitoring through bioacoustics and is the author of Natural Connection.

is a multi-award winning author and the director of Black to the Future Festival. In 2023 she was selected as one of The Next 25 Visionaries To Watch.

This event will be held in Theatre 1 at the Royal Society on Saturday 4 July 2026, 11am – 11.30am.
