Panel: From wardrobe to water — The impact of fast fashion on ocean health

03 July 2026 14:00 - 14:40 91TV Free

This event is part of the Royal Society's Summer Science Exhibition 2026.

Could our summer looks be harming our oceans’ health? As cheap clothing floods our 'For You' pages, our marine ecosystems may be paying the price.

Join our panel of researchers and writers looking to understand the link between fast fashion and ocean pollution for a discussion on what the fashion industry – and you – can do to see clothes differently.

Speakers include:

  • – Creative marketing strategist for sustainable fashion brands, charities and social enterprises, who has written for publications including Grazia, Dazed and the Guardian, and creator and co-host of the Mixed Up podcast
  • – Academic, author and BBC broadcaster based at UCL focused on the physics of breaking waves
  • – Senior Lecturer in Geography in Loughborough University's Department of Geography and Environment taking an interdisciplinary and community-focused approach to the study of environmental pollution
  • Professor Mark Miodownik (Chair) – Materials scientist engineer, broadcaster award-winning author and Royal Society Professor of Public Engagement

This talk is part of the Royal Society’s See Stuff Differently programme.
