Professor Nick Jennings is an internationally recognised authority on Artificial Intelligence and a founder of the field of multi-agent systems. His research focuses on developing individual autonomous agents that can act and interact in flexible ways and with effectively engineering systems that contain multiple humans and software agents. He has developed new algorithms and mechanisms for cooperation, coordination and negotiation and deployed these in software systems that have saved lives in the aftermath of disasters, monitored the impact of climate change and helped win Olympic medals.
He is the Vice-Chancellor and President of , and was, previously, the UK's first of Computer Science and the inaugural to the on National Security.

Nick was made a Companion of the Order of the Bath () in 2016 for his services to computer science and national security science. He has received a number of prestigious awards for his research including the (1999), the ACM Autonomous Agents Research Award (2003), and the (2020).
