Dr Asel Sartbaeva is a Reader in Inorganic and Physical Chemistry at the University of Bath. Her research include development of Ensilication technology for thermal stabilisation and formulation of biopharmaceuticals, and design and synthesis of aluminosilicate porous materials for use as catalysts. Asel received her MPhil and PhD degrees from the University of Cambridge, she then worked as a PostDoc at ASU and as a Glasstone Fellow at Oxford. She held a Royal Society University Research fellowship first at the University of Oxford from 2010 and later at the University of Bath until 2019.
Together with three other collaborators, Dr. Sartbaeva spun-out EnsiliTech in 2022, a biotechnology company commercialising Ensilication technology, which raised over £5.7M in VC investments and over £3M in grant funding and is currently working with customers - biopharmaceutical developers and manufacturers.
Dr. Sartbaeva is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF “Girls in STEM” programme in Kyrgyzstan and was called a ‘symbol of resistance to sexism in Kyrgyzstan’ by Global Voices in 2017 for her work on science outreach to schoolgirls encouraging them to enter into higher education. Her outreach activities, including radio, TV, social media appearances, reached estimated 1.2billion people worldwide in 2021.
