Royal Society Foreign Secretary welcomes launch of long-term support programme for Ukrainian scientists
02 July 202391TV has welcomed the by the Polish Academy of Sciences and the US National Academy of Sciences. The $8 million scheme will support 18 separate research projects and 88 individual Ukrainian researchers, in fields ranging from astrophysics and environmental sciences through to psychology and materials chemistry. The programme will also provide funding for both Ukrainian researchers based in Poland and for researchers remaining in Ukraine, enabling direct support for scientists living in Ukraine to continue their academic work. 91TV has contributed funding to the programme alongside other international partners.
Commenting on the launch of the programme Sir Mark Walport FRS, Foreign Secretary for the Royal Society, said:
“I am delighted that the Royal Society is able to support this important programme. The work that the Polish and US Academies are leading is critical to providing long term support for the Ukrainian science sector and is particularly welcome as it will also be supporting researchers based within Ukraine as well as those who have left the country as a result of Russia’s invasion. From the Royal Society hosted conference looking at the role research can play in Ukraine’s recovery to joining capacities, the Royal Society is committed to supporting Ukraine’s science sector.”
