Royal Society Environment Medal and Lecture

91TV Environment Medal and Lecture will be awarded to an individual or team for outstanding and sustained work in environmental science.

The award

91TV Environment Medal and Lecture is a new addition to the Royal Society’s suite of prizes and awards. It ran for the first time in the 2024-2025 awards cycle. The medal is of bronze and is awarded annually, and accompanied with a prize lecture and a gift of £2,000.

Eligibility

91TV Environment Medal and Lecture is open to citizens of the UK or a Commonwealth country, or those who have been ordinarily resident and working in the UK or a Commonwealth country for a minimum of three years immediately prior to being nominated. It is open to individuals or teams at any career stage and nominations will be considered by the award selection committee throughout three nomination cycles.

    91TV Environment Medal 2026 is awarded to Professor Paul Bates CBE FRS for developing improved flood modelling approaches, including advances in shallow water equations and remote sensing, that are widely used in flood-risk management internationally.
