Case studies

Explore our range of case studies and supporting resources, which highlight a few of the activities across science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) that are enabled by the grants scheme, from primary ages through to post-16.

Project plans

Each of our project plans is based on a selection of successfully-funded projects and can provide inspiration and guidance to those planning their projects or application. The plans are freely downloadable and fully adaptable. You can also view some example project titles (PDF) covering a range of previously-funded projects for inspiration. Along with our project plans we have some examples of projects that have included oracy-rich activities in them that support the curriculum for primary science education

Map

The interactive map below allows you to explore the projects that have been funded in the past three years of Partnership Grants. The different colour markers show the different project age levels: blue = primary, yellow = secondary, orange = all through, and green = post-16/FE colleges

Films created by Partnership Grant schools and colleges

Some of our Partnership Grants schools and colleges have previously received grants to film their projects and develop skills in communication. Here are some select examples.

Barlaston CE (VC) First School and Abellio London Bus - Young students were challenged to build and code robotic buggies to push or pull a small load up a slope. Find out how these students got on developing their skills in coding, analysis and the scientific method.

Beaulieu Convent School and Royal Horticultural Society - The original project, undertaken in 2019, involved secondary age students who investigated the DNA sequence of different cultivars (varieties) of daffodil in Jersey to see if the physical features (colour, petal shape etc) could be linked to specific DNA properties.

Town Close School, John Innes Centre and Norwich Medical School - Through the Tomorrow's climate scientists project, primary age students investigated how pollution and other environmental factors impact the growth of crops in different areas of their school. You can find out more about their project in this longer video, as well as the extension project work they undertook in 2022.

St Patrick's College Dungannon and NIE Networks - A cross-curricular project involving science and geography at secondary level. Through the Tomorrow's climate scientists programme the students researched the climate in Zambia, solar lighting and the best components to make solar-powered lanterns before they designed and created their own lanterns.

News articles and project blogs

Some of our Partnership Grants have featured in local, or even national press over the last few years. We also support grant holders with writing blogs that feature on the Royal Society website. A small sample of each can be found below.

Project posters

At the end of each grant, schools and colleges are asked to submit a summary poster about their Partnership Grant work, and what they have achieved. From the rest of their evaluation we create case studies of some of the key benefits and impacts of the grants. Please find a small selection below, or explore a wider range across all ages and a wide variety of subjects via our project poster gallery.
