We recently spoke to Dr James Buckley (ETH Zurich), whose paper was invited by the Preprint editor about their new Proceedings B paper and experience of publishing via the preprint route.

I think high quality peer review draws on the knowledge of a large and diverse pool of experts to recognise good research and improve manuscripts. All done in a timely manner so it doesn’t hold up important findings.

I am very passionate about promoting outstanding science and helping to shape the direction of the field.

Many people are aware of the Black Death that ravaged Medieval Europe and killed about half of the population, but fewer people know that Europe was also hit by the plague during the third plague pandemic, which started in 1894 when it spread out of Hong Kong to the rest of the world – including Europe.
